We get a lot of guests from Texas...
so we have posted some directions and tips below

General Distances and Times:

DFW (airport) to Amarillo:  345mi, 6 hours
Amarillo to Breckenridge:  456 mi, 8 hours 19 mins

Notes:

US-287 through Amarillo is the best way to go.  The Hilton Garden Inn is a good stop in Amarillo.

Be forewarned that your GPS will try to send you up I-35 and connect with other interstate routes - but 287 is the best tried and true method.

If you want to push beyond Amarillo then Dumas has the nicest places for an overnight.  Past Dumas the next reasonable place is Raton, NM and then Pueblo, CO.

On our last trip, we pressed on to Colorodo Springs and stayed on the Cheyenne Mountain resort.  We used a military rate ($100) - and had a lovely, relaxing stay.  They have a very nice buffet, great view - and it is a classy resort.

Driving is also a good way to avoid the possibility of Altitude Illness - since you acclimate along the way...

Safe Travels!
