Be prepared for the cold...

We have a lot of guests from Florida and Texas who frankly have not seen much in terms of cold weather.  Therefore, I have made some notes below.

Base layer; long underwear (top and bottoms) - make sure it wicks

Socks; Nothing like good socks. Smartwool is good and worth paying a little extra.  make sure they are knee high for skiing.  http://www.backcountry.com/smartwool-phd-ski-racer-sock

Turtle-neck; will be your next layer.  Wicking is good.  Not too heavy...

Light puff jacket;  is what I prefer.  I have this jacket and LOVE it.  I wear it all winter long here in TX.  http://www.backcountry.com/arcteryx-atom-lt-insulated-jacket-mens#review_200133965

My wife has a Patagonia.   http://www.backcountry.com/patagonia-nano-puff-insulated-jacket-womens .

These two jackets are similar IMHO, thisjacket looks good on women, the one above looks better on guys...

Outer jacket:  I like Outdoor Research stuff.  Good value without the big North Face dollars.  I have one like this that goes over teh light puff jacket.  I like the flexibility.  Also, in black it really does not look like a ski jacket so you can wear it in TX.  This one does not have a hood.  I rarely where my hood (if ever) but you be the judge.  http://www.backcountry.com/outdoor-research-credo-softshell-jacket-mens#review_67539 Another you may wish to look at is:  http://www.backcountry.com/outdoor-research-revel-jacket-mens

For the lady, this looks like a good option;  http://www.backcountry.com/outdoor-research-transfer-softshell-jacket-womens or this for one with a removable hood... http://www.backcountry.com/outdoor-research-backbowl-jacket-womens
Ski / Sledding pants:   you can go cheaper, in my opinion, because you won't be wearing those often in TX or Florida  ;-)

Maybe something like...  http://www.cabelas.com/mens-bibs-pants-arctix-insulated-ski-pants.shtml?WT.tsrc=CSE&WT.mc_id=GoogleBaseUSA&WT.z_mc_id1=727110&rid=40&mr:trackingCode=642DD149-434E-E011-BB8E-001B21631C34&mr:referralID=NAI have  been in this gear in -40.  Granted it was brutal but I survived.  If it's crazy like that I am guessing most of you are drinking todies by the fire ;-)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I know this stuff is expensive - but I am also offering stuff (jackets you will use other times as well).

Overall, there are cheaper ways to go.  However, these are the layers.  How you get there is your choice.

I had links to Backcountry because they guarantee everything for life :-)
